2020 Flamborough Paint Challenge is going virtual!

Based on the current situation regarding COVID-19, and recommendations from both the Canadian and Ontario governments, we made the tough decision at the beginning of April to cancel the 2020 Flamborough Paint Challenge scheduled for June 24th, 2020.

We wanted to be proactive and do our part to stop the spread and flatten the curve of coronavirus.

The Flamborough Paint Challenge was created through the Healthy Youth Network (formerly HC-HY) by a youth-led team, as a way to build skills, awareness, relationships and success. Proceeds from this annual event go to support youth mental health right here in Flamborough.

Despite the change in plans, we remain committed to creating a community where all youth flourish! Together, with our partners, The Healthy Youth Network has already begun to find new ways to support youth and their families during these unprecedented times.

That is why on May 4th we launched the 2020 Flamborough Paint Challenge Virtual Edition!

We wanted to give the community and youth the chance to ‘Create the Challenge’ themselves by creating a virtual challenge that the community can participate in.

Our youth-led team took inspiration from other virtual challenges like the ALS ice bucket challenge from 2014, Movember, and the ‘no makeup selfie’ challenge from 2014.

We want youth, either by themselves or with a team, to create a virtual challenge idea that; promotes positive mental health awareness, has the ability to foster positive relationships, use paint in some kind of way, and respects current COVID-19 regulations and laws.

Between May 4 – 22 youth can register their ideas and post it on social media with the #FPVC2020.

Our Youth Impact Team will decide on the winning entry and award the winning team with a  $500 cash prize. High school students can also claim up to five volunteer hours for submitting a challenge idea!

The winning challenge idea will be announced on June 1 and the challenge will be launched on June 2.

During this time of social isolation, it’s important to continue to connect youth in meaningful ways. What better way than by giving them an opportunity to come up with a challenge that fosters relationships and raises awareness around youth mental health?

It is very easy to become isolated during this pandemic so we felt that it was important to create a way for youth to feel less alone and give them the chance to create a virtual challenge that could have a positive impact on their community.

For this campaign we have partnered with Voices Against Bullying, a local group of parents and community members who are working together to fight bullying in our community.
